What Is a Dental Implant?
An implant is a screw-shaped post, usually made of titanium, placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once it fuses with the bone, a crown, bridge or denture is attached to it.
Treatment Process
- Examination and 3D imaging to assess the bone
- Placement of the implant under local anesthesia
- Healing period for the implant to fuse with the bone (usually 2–6 months)
- Impressions and preparation of the crown, bridge or denture
- Fitting of the restoration and regular follow-ups
Caring for Implants
Implants do not decay, but the surrounding gum and bone can become inflamed. Daily brushing, interdental brushes or floss and regular checkups are important for long-term health.
